The most common tech support question at Riverbed

David Spark reporting for Riverbed at Interop '09, Las Vegas, NV.

In just a couple of days, Riverbed will be hitting its seventh year anniversary. Steve Smoot, VP of technical operations, who was one of the first dozen employees. He's been around all those eight years. I asked Smoot what WAN optimization was like eight years ago and how it's evolved to today. Back then, Smoot was evangelizing the issue of latency is affecting your business operations. Today, people have finally figured that out and that's why there's such a big market for WAN optimization.

And since he deals with customer support issues, I asked him what was the most common support issue he has to answer. You'll be amused at the answer. It's a simple mistake a lot of us make.
